Must visit secret beaches in Cornwall
In no particular order ... we love them all!
Booby’s Bay – a wide sandy beach with rock pools & great surfing
Boobys Bay can be found at the north end of Constantine Bay. It is covered at high tide and surrounded by rock pools. At low tide it is linked to Constantine and you can walk round on the sand. At the top is a grassy area with footpath, for walking and riding a bike along.
The path goes all the way up to Trevose Head. Parking is tricky though, You can park up near Trevose Head at the car park and walk through the field in the summer.
Porthbeor Beach - a fabulous spot to moor up your boat
One of the Roseland Peninsula's many off the beaten track beaches. Difficult to find, but so worth the effort, especially on a hot and sunny day! Reachable via a stiff half mile walk down an often steep and slippery coast path, from the road a mile south west of Bohortha. A pleasant walk is around from St Anthony Head. Backed by high cliffs with pebbles at the bottom, and a strip of sand at low water. The best way is to arrive by boat and moor up just off the beach.
Rocky Beach - rock pooling for toddlers and a great spot to watch the sun set with an evening bbq.
Rocky beach is a must for everyone who loves crabbing and rock pooling. It is easy to reach as you can park at Trevone beach car park and there is just a short walk, so perfect for even toddlers. At low tide there is a natural swimming pool that you can swim in, built out of the rocks. The cliff path runs past the top of Rocky beach and you can walk along the coastal path to Harlyn and beyond.
However it is on a sunny evening that the beach comes into its own – there is no better spot for an evening beach bbq and watching the sun set over the sea.
Lantic Bay - a truly hidden cove in south east Cornwall,
If you're looking for a secluded beach, try Lantic Bay, a south-facing 'sun trap' with white sands and some shingle located 1∏ miles from both Fowey and Polruan. Access to the beach, via a steep cliff path, is very difficult and as such is inaccessible to wheelchairs or pushchairs. (The frequent strong rip currents in the bay are dangerous, so swimming is not recommended.) The nearest (National Trust) car parks are a 15-20 walk from the beach.
But because of the difficulty of access, Lantic is normally very quiet. Fine views from the beach take in the impressive Pencarrow Head. It is perfect for families with older children who can cope with the walk and enjoy an adventure.
